High Spec Laptops

!±8± High Spec Laptops

There are several key differences between high spec laptops and laptops designed for more day to day use, namely differences in processing power, memory capacity, graphics engines and sound cards. In all high spec laptops these things will be vastly more powerful, bigger and more impressive respectively.

If you're thinking about investing in a high spec laptop then you should certainly spend some time researching the options. You'll more than likely be spending in the region of £800 to £1,000 and upwards so you'll want to make sure you're getting the machine that's suited to your needs. Think about what you need it to do and what the key must haves are. For example, if you're buying your machine for gaming purposes then you'll need a good graphics accelerator and a decent sound card along with a large hard drive and plenty of ram.

If you'll be using your laptop to edit movies or will be working with high resolution graphics then a video card and possibly a high definition screen will be key things for you. Most high spec laptops will have these things as standard, but it's worth double checking just to be sure.

One disadvantage of high spec laptops is that they do tend to be weightier and a little more bulky than other portable machines, so if you're going to be carrying yours around with you, rather than leaving it parked at your work station then you should definitely invest in a heavy duty carry case that will take the extra weight. Most high street stores will stock them and, if not, you'll find them on the manufacturer's website.

As high spec laptops are a considerable purchase, if you're not sure what machine to go for it's a good idea to talk to people in the know. Ask around amongst your peers and find out what brands other people recommend. Lots of very helpful forums have been set up in the gaming community where gamers discuss the merits and drawbacks of different brands. A little research will also bring up any number of gadget and laptop specific websites where you'll find unbiased reviews written by people who are always on the lookout for innovations and new developments.
